THE TALL SHIPS ARRIVE IN VENTURA THIS WEEK


Last Chance to Tour or Attend a Battle on The Tallships in 2012

The official Tall Ships of Washington state and her companion vessel will visit Ventura Harbor Jan. 24 through Feb. 5. During their nearly two-week stay, the ships will offer public tours (weekdays 4pm-5pm and weekends 10am to 1pm, 3$ pp), and sailings that give guests a taste of 18th century maritime life.

In addition during their visit, the Thousand Oaks-based Civil War re-enactment group, the Washington Artillery of New Orleans, will stage an encampment on the harbor grounds Jan. 28-29 that is free to the public to view.

Monday, February 6 - President Reagan's Birthday Celebration

Colonel Nicholas Marano, Commanding Officer at United States Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, will conduct the outdoor ceremony, which will commence at 11:00 a.m. with a musical prelude beginning at 10:30 a.m. by the Camp Pendleton Marine Division Band. The ceremony includes a color guard, chaplain, a brass quintet, a 21-gun salute, the placing of an official White House wreath on President Reagan’s gravesite, and a keynote address by Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour.

The highly interactive website, www.MilitaryKidsConnect.org, created by psychologists at the DoD's National Center for Telehealth and Technology, helps children of deployed parents cope with the stress, changing responsibilities, and concern for the safety of their parents.
