Hello Everyone

This week we met some wonderful people and families at the Ventura Family Festival in the Park. In the coming months you will see events and activities listed from some of the wonderful groups that I met at this event.

Today is Mothers Day and I hope you and your kids and family celebrated in a wonderful way. Motherhood is not always easy but it has its wonderful rewards.

We gave away two sets of Strawberry Festival tickets this week. The first winner is Rhonda G. who won this weeks family 4 pack of tickets.

Plus for everyone who joined us at the  Ventura Family Festival in the Park and tried to guess how many pieces of macaroni was in our jar for sometickets, the winner is...........Rachel M. We had a total of 256 pieces of macaroni in the jar and Rachel won with her guess of 258.

VIEW THE PARTIAL SOLAR ECLIPSE LIVE IN L.A.


Starting at 5:24pm on Sunday May 20th at Griffith Observatory

On May 20th 2012 you will have a chance to view  the first solar eclipse in the United States in 18 years. The eclipse begins over the Pacific Ocean and, from south of the Aleutian Islands, travels to the California coast at Redwoods National Park. The Fillmore Chamber of Commerce presents its 100th Anniverary May Festival on Thursday, May 17th through Sunday, May 20th, 2012. This year the festival will be bigger and better with double the activities of past events. Sure to be one of the best events in Southern California. A special Kiddie area for younger children will be separated from the Carnival (and the older kids) to allow parents and kids to enjoy a fun time. Lots of things to do - Arts/Crafts, unique Food vendors and Games will ensure a good time for all. The Main Stage features top entertainment in a concert style atmosphere and will be family friendly. Enjoy a snack or dinner while enjoying the performances of great bands, like the SOS Band, a crowd favorite.

Saturday, May 19 - Bald Eagle Festival

An event to celebrate the return of bald eagles will provide visitors an opportunity to see a live bald eagle up close, meet wildlife biologists, and learn about the ecological significance of bald eagle restoration on the Channel Islands. The event will feature hourly screenings of Return Flight: Restoring the Bald Eagle to the Channel Islands. Activities for the entire family include a live bald eagle viewing from 1:00 to 3:00 pm, Native American storytelling with Chumash island descendent Julie Tumamait, arts and crafts, educational booths, and ranger talks broadcast live from remote Anacapa Island and at the visitor center marine life exhibit.

Saturday, July 14 - The 2012 Sunset Tiki 5K & 1K Family Fun Run

The course will be partially lit by tiki torches along the way. Beginning on Harbor Blvd., runners will make their way down Ventura’s beachfront bike trail looping around San Buenaventura State Beach and finishing back at the Promenade. It is a flat, fast and scenic 5k. The 1k fun run, for children under 12, will be out and back along the same bike trail. Eco-friendly age group and overall awards will be presented after the race for the 5k. Each child in the 1k fun run will receive a participant award. There will also be a “Most Hawaiian” award for Men and Women. The post race Hawaiian themed party will be located near the finish line and Ventura Promenade.

Easy, Yummy Strawberry Recipe to Make at Home

With the Strawberry Festival coming to Oxnard this weekend. I thought it would be fun to share this Strawberry Cream Cheese Shortcake recipe from one of my fellow Publisher Moms, Kristin Blankenship.

Ingredients:
  • 1 Box White or Yellow Cake Mix
  • 3 Eggs
  • 1 8 oz. Package Softened Cream Cheese
  • ¼ cup All Purpose Flour
  • 2 Quarts of Strawberries
  • ¼ cup Granulated Sugar
  • Whipped Cream
Directions:
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
  2. Wash and cut up fresh strawberries, mix in a bowl with granulated sugar and set aside.
