MACARONI KID REVIEWS TEEN BEACH MOVIE 2

Get the Scoop On the Disney Movie of the Summer for Your Tween & Teens

By Harold Rosenthal, Elizabeth Rosenthal (age 10) and Victoria Rosenthal (age 7) June 28, 2015
On June 26th, Disney Channel premiered the highly anticipated surf and song sequel to "Teen Beach Movie," with "Teen Beach Movie 2" and Macaroni Kid joined the stars on the Red Carpet last week as we screened the movie.

The highly anticipated surf and song sequel to "Teen Beach Movie" picks up at the close of summer. With surf season over and high school back in session, laid-back Brady and studious Mack's relationship is headed for a wipeout when they receive a surprise real-world visit from their 1960s silver screen friends, Lela and Tanner, who have remarkably departed "Wet Side Story," quickly followed by their 1960s bikers and surfer friends led by Butchy, Cheechee and Seacat.

Knowing first-hand that the "real" world and the movie world don't mix, Mack, Brady and all of the "Wet Side Story" friends must quickly devise a plan and use the magic of Lela's necklace to get everyone back to their movie world before it's too late.

MACARONI KID REVIEWS TEEN BEACH MOVIE 2
It is a cute family friendly movie and sequel to “Teen Beach Movie.”  It is alternately funny and touching and filled with great musical numbers.

We loved that most of the cast form the original movie is back along with some fun new characters.  My favorite song was the heart tugging “On My Own” with Ross Lynch singing lead and performed by R5 (his family band).

My 8 year old loved the fun “Silver Screen,” and my 10 year old really enjoyed the upbeat “Gotta Be Me.”  There were even reprises of a couple of songs from the first movie “Meant to Be” and “Falling for You.”  They also did a fun reinterpretation of “Falling For You.”  Fans of the first movie will notice that they appear to have changed Brady and Mack’s back story but it doesn’t detract from your enjoyment of the movie.

MACARONI KID TALKS WITH THE STARS OF TEEN BEACH MOVIE 2
Ross Lynch (Brady) said it was a great movie for families because it was fun and had a great message.  “It’s about female empowerment, friendship, and following your dreams.”  When asked what he considered himself he said he’d like to say an actor, but he spend most of his time singing.  He is very excited about the upcoming R5 tour which starts in July.  It will be a long tour with many cities and he said they keep extending it to even more cities.

Garrett Clayton (Tanner) said his favorite scene was his slow walk down the hallway.  He said he always wanted to do a slow walk in a movie so he suggested it to the director.  The director not only liked the idea but added the “John Travolta” flip up the collar spin and point.

Ross Butler (Spencer) said he wanted his character to convey the message that you should follow your passions.  He described how Spencer was passionately into Oceanography and that he didn’t care what others thought.  Although he said he couldn’t dance Grace Phipps (Leila) popped by and said “Don’t believe him. He did a great job dancing.”  He also shared that his villain character on KC Undercover will be back in July.

Mollee Gray (Giggles) is a dancer and veteran of Disney’s musical comedies having been in all 3 High School Musicals and both Teen Beach movies.  She love the message of female empowerment in the movie.  She said it was important for girls to know that they can be whatever they want to be and not to let anybody tell them they can’t do something just because they are a girl.

Piper Curda (Alyssa) who also plays Jasmine in “I Didn’t Do It” loved the feeling of family among the cast.  Although her character was a new addition and she was new to the group she said they immediately welcomed her and made he feel like she belonged.

My kids thoroughly loved the experience of meeting and interviewing the cast.  We also loved the movie and are looking forward to watching it again when it premiers on Disney Channel.  We recommend seeing it for yourself.

In addition to the screening of the movie we also got to check out the DVD which releases on June 26th as well and includes, exclusive cast dance rehearsals with exciting new contemporary and retro music with dance numbers choreographed by Christopher Scott.

Get ready to join Ross Lynch, Maia Mitchell and the rest of cast as they learn some of the crazy steps for the movie.  See how they put the moves into the songs Best Summer Ever, Gotta Be Me, Falling For Ya, and That’s How We Do.
