MACARONI KID REVIEWS DISNEY'S ZOOTOPIA

A Fun Movie With Some Great Life Lessons

Zootopia opens this weekend, on March 4th at local theatres in Camarillo, Oxnard and Ventura and last week Macaroni Kid got to check it out at a special early prescreening. Did it live up to the hype? Yes, it was as fun and cute as we expected it to be.

We found the movie heartwarming and it included a hilarious mystery with some great messages for audiences of all ages. Zootopia is basically a buddy cop film for kids starring animals. The two basic messages of the film are you can be anything you want if you follow your dreams and don’t judge others based on their biology.

In the movie both lead characters overcome obstacles put in their way by others because of their background, Judy as the first Bunny Cop and Nick as a Fox turned con man because he was convinced at a young age that as a fox he could do no better.

Ginnifer Goodwin does a wonderful job playing Judy Hopps and Jason Bateman is excellent as Nick Wilde.  My favorite characters were the comic relief of Tommy Chong as Yax and Flash by Raymond Persi. The DMV scene had us all laughing uproariously even though we had seen it several times in the trailers.

The whole concept of “Zootopia” a city for all animals with several zones that various habitats are amazing. The backgrounds are wonderful for each part of the city and had amazing detail and was absolutely beautiful. One of the most amazing effects is when Judy and Duke Weaselton (a weasel she is chasing) go from tiny in an area for larger animals to being huge when they enter the mouse section.

In summary, we loved the movie and would highly recommend it for you and your family. Beyond the laughs and the fun storyline of a bunny and a fox being friends and getting along. This movie teaches some great lessons to kids about equality and that there are second chances even if you are scam artist fox.
