THE FARMS OF VENTURA COUNTY FARM DAY

The 4th Annual Ventura Farm Day will take place Saturday, November 5 from 10am to 3pm and here is a list of the farms participating in the agricultural celebration where Ventura County farms/museums open their doors and invite the public to experience a day of agricultural learning firsthand from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. 

Be sure and pack a lunch with water or visit Oxnard Farm Park the official lunch location for Farm Day. Wear a hat and comfortable close toed shoes. Oxnard Farm Park is located at 1251 Gottfried Place, Oxnard, CA and Lunch is from 11:00-3:00 and features:
  • Taco Truck 
  • Book Signing of Oxnard Sugar Beets - Ventura County Lost Cash Crop
  • Games - corn hole, jenga 
  • Vintage printing press demonstration 
  • Site Tour - historic buildings and farm equipment 
  • Music, beer, wine
Museums/Labs
In addition to farms, some local museums and labs will also be open for visitors:

Rancho Camulos Museum @5164 E Telegraph Rd, Piru, CA 93040
  • Rancho Camulos is situated within an 1,800 acre working ranch and is the best remaining example of a Spanish-Mexican rancho in its original rural environment.
  • Visitors at this National Historic Landmark will tour the 1853 adobe home, cocina, winery, chapel, schoolhouse and the beautiful gardens featuring over fifty varieties of roses.
  • The tours detail the lives of the native Tataviam Indians, the del Valle family who established Rancho Camulos in 1853, and the Rubel family, who purchased the ranch in 1924.
Ventura County Ag Museum @ 926 Railroad Ave, Santa Paula, CA 93060
  • Come learn about how the agricultural industry helped to attract settlers to Ventura County from around the world beginning in the 1800s.
  • In addition to learning about the history of agriculture within the region, visitors to the museum can also experience exhibits showcasing the machine age artwork by artist Wendell Dowling, the history and evolution of tractors, and the role of aviation in agriculture. 
AGQ Laboratory @2451 Eastman Ave, Ste 1, Oxnard, CA 93030 
  • Tour a high-tech laboratory that specializes in Nutritional Monitoring and Food Safety!
  • Tours will be given every hour from 10:30 until 2:30 and will be led by scientists who help clients get the best out of their land as well as test the food we're eating to make sure it's safe to eat.

CAMARILLO

Pick your own organic strawberries or shop in season at their roadside farmer's market right off the 101 Freeway in Camarillo. Tours every hour on the hour.

Meet-and-greet the farmer, U-pick, citrus, avocados, figs and other speciality fruit. Rincon Vitova Insectaries will be at the Farm Lab at Petty Ranch. Come learn about insectraries' important role in agriculture, and how Rincon Vitova participates in SEEAG's Farm Lab Education Program.

Learn about how cattle ranchers raise grass fed beef in diverse drought conditions. Tours start at 12:00 pm!

Salad Bar Farms at Balboa Middle School @ 247 S Hill Rd, Ventura, CA 93003
Tour Salad Bar Farms, a farm that incorporates permaculture and native pollinator habitat. Visitors will learn about farm to school in Ventura County and how students are learning how to grow food, deliver it to their cafeteria for consumption that day, and composting their own food waste. Tours will take place every hour.

FILLMORE

Chivas Skin Care @2220 Bardsdale Ave, Fillmore, CA 93105 (SIGN UP FOR THE FREE TOUR HERE)
Chivas Skin Care raises French Alpine goats and uses the fresh milk to handcraft goat milk soaps. Sign-up for a free tour of the farm and soap workshop here (fully booked last year). Guests unable to join the tour are still welcome to visit the farm, where they can meet and feed the goats, pigs, tortoises and chickens. While the soap workshop is only open to tour members, the soap showroom will be open all day.

SANTA PAULA

Calavo will have a tent in Limoneira's Park for Farm Day, stop by their booth to meet their avocado man and to learn everything about their avocado and guacamole.

OJAI

Ojai citrus history, family lore, fresh-squeezed orange juice and tastes of a variety of seasonal citrus fruits. On this special farm day folks will be allowed to squeeze their own cup of juice and taste the way real orange juice should taste.

MOORPARK

Apricot Lane Farms @10700 Broadway Rd, Moorpark, CA 93021
Apricot Lane Farms is home to Biodynamc Certified avocado and lemon orchards, over 75 varities of stone fruit, a vegetable garden, pastures, pigs, goats, chickens, ducks, guinea hens, horses, highland cattle, and Maggie, their swiss dairy cow. 

THE BBQ
After a day at the farm enjoy a barbeque celebration at the Ventura County Fairgrounds (San Miguel Building) in Ventura. The barbeque is from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and features live country music by Coldwater Canyon, farm-fresh food prepared by Young Farmers & Ranchers, and Dearmore BBQ Catering, locally-produced craft cocktails, beers from Institution Ale and wine from Summerland Winery. Lots of free kids’ activities are also planned. Tickets for the BBQ  are $40 adults and teens/$15 kids under 12.

After dinner, enjoy a delectable dessert, play a round of cornhole, or take the kids to get their faces painted. All proceeds from this event go directly to ensuring that SEEAG's programs stay 100% free of charge for children, schools, and teachers across Ventura County.

CELEBRATE FARM DAY FRIDAY NIGHT NOVEMBER 4
This year’s Ventura County Farm Day (November 5) will kick off a day early with its first Food and Farm Film Fest, Friday, November 4 at Mission Park in downtown Ventura. The free, family-friendly event will feature short films produced locally that tell the story of life (both human and animal) on the farm and the popular kids’ movie “Babe.”

Critically acclaimed filmmaker John Chester will be on hand to present and talk about his films. Chester, co-owner of Apricot Lane Farms in Moorpark, has produced short films that are regularly featured on Oprah Winfrey’s “Super Soul Sunday” on the OWN network. Films screening at the fest are: “The Guardians,” “Reimagining Apricot Lane Farms,” “Worry for Maggie” and the Emmy award-winning “Saving Emma.”

The Food and Farm Film Fest begins at 5:00 p.m., with the films beginning at dusk. Festivalgoers can bring food, blankets and lawn chairs. Food will also be available from Scratch Food Truck and Paradise Pantry (call ahead to Paradise Pantry to order a picnic box, 805-641-9440). Free parking is available at Mission Park and the Ventura County Museum.
