THE 2012 AVON WALK FOR BREAST CANCER

Is Sept. 22nd & 23rd in Santa Barbara, Sign Up, Donate or Just Cheer On Other Walkers

The 2012 Avon Walk for Breast Cancer series returns for its tenth year to the Santa Barbara area with the Avon Walk Santa Barbara on September 22-23.  The Avon Walk series brings together thousands of participants – including Breast Cancer Survivors – who are dedicated to raising life-saving funds for the Breast Cancer cause.

To sign up as a walker you must be 16 or older. In addition each walker is required to raise at least $1,800. To sign up as an individual walker it costs $65 per person. The Avon Walk  offers participants a choice of walking a marathon (26.2 miles) or a marathon-and-a-half (39.3 miles) over a weekend. Avon Foundation for Women distributes the funds raised to local, regional and national Breast Cancer organizations.

If you would rather come out and support other walkers and cheer them on then - here is information on the schedule of events:
  • Opening: CHASE PALM PARK on Sept. 22, 2012, Walker Arrival 5-6 a.m.  and Ceremony Begins 6:30 a.m. 
  • Closing: Sept. 23, 2012 | Ceremony Begins at 3 p.m. at Carpinteria State Beach, Linden Ave & 3rd Street in Carpinteria, CA 93013
Whether participants are taking part in the Avon Walk for a personal reason or to help support the Breast Cancer cause, they all have a story to tell. The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer Santa Barbara, begins on Saturday, September 22 with an inspirational opening ceremony at Chase Palm Park in Santa Barbara. Walkers will then begin their journey of up to 39.3 miles through the Santa Barbara region supported by an all-volunteer crew and cheered on by family, friends and supporters along the route.

After a full day of walking on Saturday, walkers and crew spend the night at the “Wellness Village” at La Cumbre Junior High School, which features two-person pink sleeping tents, hot showers, prepared meals, entertainment, volunteer medical services and support services, along with leisure activities such as relaxing yoga to stretch out the muscles and a spa zone with mini back and foot massages.

Then on Sunday, September 23, walkers complete their final 13.1 miles, celebrating their achievement at the Closing Ceremony at Carpinteria State Beach in Carpinteria, CA, with thousands of family and friends. During the ceremony, the Avon Foundation for Women will award new grants to local Breast Cancer organizations in Southern California to ensure the funds raised immediately benefit the community.
