HOLIDAY RECYCLING FOR CAMARILLO, OXNARD & VENTURA

Information on How to Get Rid of Your Xmas Tree and Extra Trash From The Holidays

December 23, 2012
Christmas is in just a few days and New Years is next week. Every year I like to run an article about what to do with your old trees and information on how to get rid of all that wrapping paper, you have accumulated during the holidays.

Here is information on what you can do to properly dispose of it in the cities of Camarillo, Oxnard or Ventura.

FOR CAMARILLO RESIDENTS
  • Recycling your Christmas tree is easy!
  • Simply place it (preferably cut into three-foot lengths) next to the tan yard waste barrel on your trash collection day for two weeks after December 25.
  • Don’t forget to first remove all decorative and metal items.
  • If you prefer to enjoy your tree well into the New Year, it can still be recycled on subsequent collection days as long as it is cut to fit inside your yard waste barrel.
  • Flocked or fire-proofed trees are not recyclable; please cut them into three-foot lengths and place in the green trash barrel.
PLUS - Camarillo solid waste customers are also allowed to put out double the weekly amount of trash at no additional charge for two weeks following Christmas. Please place your extra trash in plastic or paper bags next to the barrel.

For more information, please call the Recycling Division staff at (805) 388-5392.

FOR OXNARD RESIDENTS
It’s the Holiday Season once again, which means presents, shopping, in-laws, candy canes, and of course Christmas trees! While it’s fun to decorate these festive trees during the holidays, many people are at a loss with what to do with them once Christmas is over. The City of Oxnard has 3 convenient options to dispose of your Christmas Tree.

Option #1
  • Place Your Tree in Your Yard Waste Cart on the Appropriate Alternate Week Collection Schedule.
  • Trees must be cut down to fit into the cart with the lid closed.
  • No flocked trees.
Option #2
Free Drop-off Location Available Wednesday, December 26 – Saturday, January 19
Del Norte Regional Recycling & Transfer Station, 111 South Del Norte Blvd. (between Sturgis Rd. & Fifth St.) (Roll-off Container next to buyback center. Enter on Del Norte Blvd.)
Monday – Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Closed Sundays.

Option #3
  • Place Your Christmas Tree Curbside By 6:00 a.m. on Your Regular Collection Day - Wednesday, December 26 – Thursday, January 17
  • Please leave your tree out until collected.
  • For trees placed curbside after January 18, there will be a charge of $10 per tree.
Multifamily Collection (Condos/Apartments)
  • Contact your property manager or homeowners association for further direction.
Reminders:
  • Please remove tree stands, plastic bags, lights, ornaments, nails, tinsel & metal rod supports from trees.
  • There will be a charge of $10 per tree for flocked, painted or fire-proofed trees.
  • This year, all collection AFTER the holidays will be delayed by one day.
FOR RESIDENTS IN VENTURA
E.J. Harrison & Sons and the City of Ventura make it easy for you to recycle your Christmas tree.
  • All you need to do is remove the ornaments, hooks, lights, tinsel, bows, nails and tree stand.
  • Cut the tree into four-foot sections and place in your yard waste barrel on your scheduled pickup day.
  • Please remember that flocked trees cannot be recycled.
Trees we collect will be processed into various sizes of mulch at California Wood Recycling. The material is used by Agromin to make several products that benefit our farmlands, orchards, nurseries and our own gardens.

As a special holiday feature, our customers may put out twice the amount of trash at no extra charge during the two weeks after December 25. Please make sure the trash is in bags alongside the trash barrel.

They also collect extra recyclables, but please make sure to flatten all boxes and place alongside the recycling barrel as well.
