One of the largest tribute concerts on the West Coast returns in 2013 as “A Tribute to the Music of Johnny Cash” takes over the Ventura County Fairgrounds on Father’s Day weekend, Saturday, June 15 from 11am to 6:30pm.

One of the largest tribute concerts on the west coast, A Tribute to the Music of Johnny Cash takes over the Ventura County Fairgrounds every year. Commemorating the 10-year observance of the passing of John R. Cash in September 2003, numerous individuals will share their personal accounts of “The Man in Black”; explaining how a sharecropper’s son from Arkansas changed a musical landscape and influenced countless lives.

The fifth annual festival will also feature the return of the Noble Fabrication “Drive On” Car & Bike Show, Johnny Cash memorabilia, and vendors offering food, beverages, and collectibles.

THE MUSIC
The festival will welcome legendary rock band Foo Fighters’ lead guitarist, Chris Shiflett and his rockin’ alt-country project, the Dead Peasants, as its special guests. An additional spotlight guest includes Johnny Cash’s former publicist, fill-in tour drummer and family-friend, Hugh Waddell- who is returning to fill his annual role as the event’s emcee. Waddell says, “In this current world, I am thrilled to know that once again, real people, real love-n-guts Americans, all diverse, eclectic and beautiful people, will converge to pay loving tribute to a man who never once did believe in ‘flying pigs and exploding bales of hay’ – Cash’s own descriptive words for puffed up hype.”

Some of the musical talent that will be playing is Junior Brown, country guitarist and singer who’s charted twice on the Billboard country singles charts (pictured here); The Americans, a Los Angeles based original rock and roll and traditional American music band who recently appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman; Robert Gordon and Chris Spedding, who have joined forces in recent years to bring iconic performances to audiences around the world; The Blasters, an L.A. -based band formed in 1979 who blend rockabilly, rock and roll, and rhythm and blues to create their self-proclaimed “American Music;” Cash’d Out, a San Diego-based Johnny Cash tribute band who have won four San Diego Music Awards for Best Tribute Band; Big River, the loving tribute that Cindy
Cash called the best she’d heard since her daddy’s band and favorite of 2009’s first Johnny Cash Music Festival; and The Walking Phoenixes, a four-man band dedicated to bringing the most authentic “Man in Black” sounds to Johnny Cash fans everywhere.
