The Oxnard Police and Fire Departments and Via Marina Neighborhood Council are partnering to bring National Night Out (NNO) to Oxnard on August 6th from 5pm to 8pm, at Christa McAuliffe Elementary School,3300 W. Via Marina Ave., Oxnard, CA 93035 .

National Night Out is designed to: (1) heighten crime prevention awareness, (2) generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs, (3) strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and (4) send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized, vigilant, and fighting back.

This event will bring the District Team who patrol and serve the neighborhood, they focus solely on crime, traffic safety, and quality of life issues at the neighborhood level.   Also accompanying the District Team will be units from the Police Department to meet with local residents and provide crime-prevention information—a great opportunity for local residents to meet one another and the officers assigned to the Via Marina Neighborhood.

Confirmed units include, the Bike Unit, K-9, Code Enforcement, SWAT, DRAGG Car, and Police Explorers.  Also participating in the event is the Oxnard Fire Department who will be offering free smoke-detectors to seniors in the community.

"We'd like to thank the Oxnard Police Department, Fire Department, Target, Mc Donald’s, Coffee Bean at Seabridge, City Corps and Neighborhood Services, the City of Oxnard, National Night Out 2013, and the volunteer residents of the Via Marina Neighborhood Council for all of their support in organizing and making this event happen."

“This is a good night to get to know your neighbors, and help build a stronger and safer community while promoting awareness, safety and neighborhood unity.  It further highlights the importance of police-community partnerships and citizen involvement in our fight for a safer Oxnard and community. We hope this year’s event serves as model for what more neighborhoods in our community can organize next year” said Police Chief Williams.

NNO is a national effort of cities, law enforcement agencies, crime prevention organizations, community groups and neighborhoods.

National corporate sponsors for National Night Out 2013 are Target, Associa, and NextDoor.com.   Last year, NNO 2012 involved 37.5 million people in over 15,000 communities from all 50 states.
