This week Macaroni Kid Camarillo-Oxnard-Ventura was a guest of the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood so we could check out the very special experience, and see why this is the theatre you want to see the Disney "Planes" movie at.

Planes, is presented in Disney Digital and real D 3D, at the Disney owned El Capitan Theater at 6838 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles, thru September 18th with daily showtimes at 10 a.m., 12:45 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 6:45 p.m., and 9:45 p.m. Friday and Saturday nights. On Tuesdays they have a Tiny Tots showing at 10am and the movie will be shown in 2D for younger audiences, with lights dimmed (rather than out) and reduced sound levels.

A MACARONI  REVIEW by Harold Rosenthal
I took my daughters to see “Planes” the El Capitan Theater as their guest and it was an amazing experience.

With VIP seats which are more expensive you had assigned seats, a bucket of popcorn and a drink. It is well worth the extra cost. We picked up our refreshments then found our seats. The theater is absolutely beautiful and a throwback to the golden days of Hollywood.

As you walk in there is a display of the characters in the Planes movie and the planes from which they were designed. Additional there is a model of an engine you can take a look at or take a picture with.

After the previews a couple of animal trainers from the Wildlife Learning Center came on stage and showed the audience various birds which had been rescued, for those in the back they were displayed larger than life on the screen live.  Not only did they tell us about the bird, but also showed how some of their characteristics were imitated in the design of various planes.

We thoroughly enjoyed the movie.  It is heartwarming and funny with lots of interesting plot twists. “Planes” is an uplifting story about a crop duster who wants to be a racer.  Its central message is keep reaching for your dreams and don’t get discouraged.  It also contains a great message about the importance of integrity and friendship.  It has an all-star cast starring Dane Cook as Dusty. One minor note for fans of Top Gun are the cameos of Val Kilmer and Anthony Edwards as Fighter Jets Echo & Bravo.

After the movie we went downstairs where they have an exhibit containing models of various planes showing how aircraft have advanced over the years.  There are also four flight simulator stations set up where you can practice being a pilot yourself.

Planes was a wonderful movie, but for an absolutely amazing experience I would recommend seeing it at the El Capitan Theater.

Ticket prices range from $13 to $26 per person.
