30th Annual Coastal Cleanup Day will take place Saturday, September 20 from 9 AM – 12 PM

The 30th Annual Coastal Cleanup Day will take place on Saturday, September 20 from 9 AM – 12 PM in various locations along the coast and in some inland areas.

Thousands of residents, businesses and non-profit organizations will gather in an effort to rid our beaches of trash and debris up and down the coast in an effort to protect Ventura County’s ocean resources and waterways.

Last year, more than 3,000 dedicated volunteers from Ventura County collected almost 10,000 pounds of trash and recyclables.

In past years, Ventura County organizers have supplied all of the necessary tools to pick up debris along the beaches. However, like last year’s event, organizers are asking volunteers to "Bring your own Bags, Bucket and Gloves." Bringing your own supplies (BYO) is a great way to help reduce waste.

BRING A SIGNED WAIVER {or SPANISH Version}

The debris collected has included cigarette filters, food wrappers, beverage bottles and cans, medical supplies, grocery and trash bags, fishing line, just to name a few. Once these products enter local waterways, they can travel thousands of miles on the ocean current, posing a threat to ecosystems and wildlife along the way.

Thousands of marine animals die each year when they become entangled in debris or from digesting it. Hazardous material also poses a safety risk to barefooted beachgoers.
The California Coastal Commission and the Ventura County Coalition for Coastal and Inland Waterways is again sponsoring the event and is comprised of both city and county agencies.

To volunteer, follow the steps below. It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3!
  1. Pick a site you would like to clean up! There are approximately 20 sites in Ventura County alone, eager for your services. See the “Local Cleanup Sites” below for a list.
  2. BRING A SIGNED WAIVER {or SPANISH Version}! Remember, if you are under 18, have a parent or guardian sign for you! Waivers will also be available at cleanup sites on the day of the Cleanup.
  3. Show up at your chosen site on Saturday, September 20th, 2014 at 9 am!
