The 2014 National 'Water is Life’ Mural and Art Challenge For K-12th Graders

Ocean Scientist Dr. Sylvia Earle and renowned marine life artist Wyland last week launched a national “Ocean" art challenge at the Aquarium of the Pacific. The annual Wyland National "Water Is Life" Art Challenge is open to either teachers and their classrooms and also to individual  students in Kindergarten thru 12th grade.

The 2014 National 'Water is Life’ Mural and Art Challenge, a nationwide environmental mural and individual art contest celebrating our ocean, lakes, rivers, streams, and wetlands. This years theme is "Our Ocean," may include, but is not limited to: environment, marine eco-systems, conservation, biodiversity, habitats, human impacts, world culture, sustainable industry, exploration, technology, climate change, adaptation, and marine biology. 

INTRODUCING THE CLASSROOM MURAL CONTEST
Teachers with classes in K-12th Grade are invited to create with their students a 5-foot by 8-foot mural on ANY surface to celebrate how water shapes our lives and our world. 

Contest categories include grades K-4, 5-8, and 9-12. The class in each category whose mural best expresses their understanding of and appreciation for the ocean will receive $250 for art supplies and a grand prize signed Wyland artwork (Total ARV. $1,000).

Schools may register multiple classes. 

Note: To qualify for entry each participating mural must be accompanied by no fewer than 5 individual concept entries into the individual contest. 

INDIVIDUAL ART CONTEST
Individual Art Contest: categories include all grades K-12. The student in each grade category whose artwork best expresses the "Our Ocean" theme will receive a $50 gift certificate for art supplies. 

The deadline to submit murals and individual art is Nov. 25, 2014

The contest is presented in partnership with the Wyland Foundation, Toro Company, Fredrix Artist Canvas, Arts & Activities Magazine, National Van Lines, the U.S. Forest Service, Jerry's Art A Rama, Aquarium of the Pacific, and Marco Fine Arts.
