MACARONI KID REVIEWS THE DISCOVERY CUBE'S NEW EXHIBITS

Reviewing Spooky Science: Bug Invasion and Thomas & Friends Explore the Rails

I took my daughters (ages 3, 7 and 9) to the Discovery Science Center in Santa Ana. We primarily went to experience their new fall exhibits: “Spooky Science: Bug Invasion” and “Thomas & Friends Explore the Rails.”
The Thomas & Friends exhibit has several train tables including a very large one that my 3 year old fell in love with. In addition there were several other Thomas related exhibits including a large Thomas train the kids can climb on and a clock with movable hands so small kids can easily set the time. This exhibit was a huge hit with all three kids.

The Spooky Science: Bug Invasion exhibit was a lot of fun with a room with several different types of live insects in glass cages you can observe. After that you put on 3-D glasses to walk through an incredible maze with lots of different types of bugs. Both my seven year old and I thought it was amazing.  We really loved the room full of gigantic animatronic bugs.  The most impressive was the Praying Mantis.

The Museum is currently under construction as they are working on what looks to be a very impressive expansion which will open next year.  This does present a bit of a challenge as the entrance is around the back by where the Dino Quest exhibit is.  Be prepared for a bit of a long walk from the parking lot to the entrance.  If you have small children be sure to bring a stroller, for the walk.
