A few weeks ago Macaroni Kid publishers hosted a conference in Las Vegas and some of the newest products and toys joined Macaroni Kid to share their great products, Skylanders Activision visited with Macaroni Kid and shared their Skylanders Trap Team with us.

The game looked super fun (we have never played it before) and so when Skylanders Trap Team asked us to check out the Skylanders WIIU version we couldn't wait. The kids, age 9 and 7 have been wanting to play for years so they couldn't wait to get started.

The 3-D graphics are very well done and the controls are simple to use. My seven year old who hasn’t really played a lot of video games was easily able to make her way around the game. All three of us enjoyed playing the game and watching each other play it. The Skylanders games are based on a wonderfully unique concept. It takes toy creatures and transports them into the video game through a “portal.”

As you place different toys on the portal the video game switches the character you are controlling on the screen. Each toy saves its information internally so you can take it from system to system and pick up where you left off. As if this wasn’t enough to make the game exciting, you can trap every villain you defeat in a “traptanium” trap. You can insert that trap in the portal and play as that villain who has been reformed and is now a hero.

The game allows for very easy swapping between characters. The starter set for WIIU that we received to check out came with two characters. This will allow you to get through the various missions however there are areas you won't be able to get to unless you get at least one character from each element. The same is true for the traps. The starter set comes with one water and one nature trap, which will only allow you to trap and play characters from those elements.

If you enjoy video games, I highly recommend playing this one, my kids and I really loved playing it.

Skylanders Trap Team is available on all-major platforms and, for the first time ever, the full console version is available on iPad, Kindle Fire and Android tablets (complete with its own Bluetooth portal and controller!).
