Strawberry fields forever…The delicious heart shaped fruit is the main ingredient when the sweet Southland tradition of the 29th Annual CALIFORNIA STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL gets underway the weekend of May 19 and 20, 2012 at Strawberry Meadows of College Park in Oxnard.

This local festival is a fun and fruitful celebration that boasts strawberries every way imaginable, along with all day fun for the entire family with concert performances, the Strawberry Promenade with celebrity cooking demonstrations, more than 250 Fine Arts & Crafts booths, Strawberryland For Kids with rides and attractions, gooey contests, special appearances, and more.

The free Park & Ride “Strawberry Express” shuttles from convenient locations off the 101 Fwy make getting to the Festival a breeze. Amtrak offers special Festival weekend discount rates (shuttles meet the trains). Limited parking is also available for $10 on site at Strawberry Meadows of College Park (3250 S. Rose Avenue in Oxnard).

General admission is $12, seniors 62+ are $8 and children ages 5-12 are $5. Kids 4 and under are free. Active military and dependents with ID are $8. Hours are 10:00a.m. to 6:30p.m. both days. Advance tickets can be purchased HERE.

Kids will love the festivals magical oasis where all activities are included in the admission price. Youngsters won’t want to miss the free rides, bungee bounce, climbing wall, berry go whirl, mini train, and more. The Jest In Time Family Fun Stage, presented by Muvico Theaters,  features a full day of entertainment with juggling, clowns, puppet shows and more, while everyone’s favorite character Strawberry Shortcake greets guests and gives out “picture perfect” hugs.

New this year is "The USTA SmashZone", the premier fan interactive attraction at the US Open, is a new addition to the Festival that introduces kids to the joy of the game. With a 53-foot trailer that anchors up to four kid-sized tennis courts for youths, the mobile experience utilizes the QuickStart Tennis play format, giving children ages 10 and under the chance to achieve immediate success by playing tennis on smaller courts, using smaller and lower-bouncing balls, and allowing them to learn and develop skills in an enjoyable way. The location within Strawberryland also offers interactive fun with a Tennis Magazine green screen cover shoot, Nintendo Wii virtual tennis, touch screen kiosks, and more.

The event has helped raise over $3.5 million for various Southland charities while paying tribute to the region’s agricultural heritage and winning award recognition for its recycling and “green” policies that began in 2001.
