This week, Barbara Gibson-Paul Psy.D., LMFT, who has written a childrens book, "Max Pays Attention," will be reading from her book at the Gull Wings Childrens Museum in Oxnard on Tuesday, August 20th at 11am and 1pm.
Several weeks ago, Barbara contacted me so I could check out Max's story and we found the message very timely, especially as my kid's start getting ready to head back to school. The story features, Max, a 7 year old boy who has trouble sitting still and following the rules in class. Very similar to my 8 year old. Max's mom tries to motivate him to improve his behavior in school. After lots of hard work and self-discipline, Max finally starts to follow the rules and learns something special.

This book was really cute, we loved all the detailed pictures and really enjoyed the story. The kid's could easily identify with Max and it's a book they asked to read again the next night. It is geared to preschoolers and kid's up to age 8.
The book is written by Barbara Gibson-Paul, who herself was passionate about reading books to her children when they were growing up. She says she was driven to write "Max Pays Attention" because of her experience as a teacher, licensed therapist and as a mother of boys.
After the story on Tuesday, Barbara will lead Gull Wings' Friends in a craft project. Normal admission prices to the museum will apply.
