After visiting more than 15 Granges down the coast of California, Greenhorns’ “Grange Future” tour, a traveling exhibit about the history and future of the Grange idea, will arrive in Ventura County to celebrate the radical history and contemporary revival of the Grange movement.
GRANGE FUTURE TRAVELING EXHIBIT celebrates the long history of the grange movement, and studies the relevance of this farmers' fraternal organization as a logical, local, and community-scale venue for political organizing, potlucking, moral education, leadership and cultural life.
The week-long GRANGE REVIVAL program at the Ojai Valley Grange includes workshops, lectures and community gatherings. Local homesteaders, farmers, and artists will teach canning, butchering, soapmaking, natural fiber dying, cheesemaking, beekeeping, greywater system installation, compost tea brewing, IPM methods to reverse citrus psyllid greening, yoga, bookmaking, tamale-making, yoga and Appalachian flatfooting.
The week will culminate on Saturday March 21st at 5:30 pm with the traveling Greenhorns Grange historical exhibit, a talk by Severine Von Tscharner Fleming on the history and cultural importance of the Grange, a talk by historian Harvey Smith “From the Grange to the New Deal and Beyond: Creating Alternatives to the Privatization of Everything." Everyone is invited to the Contradance on March 21 at 7PM. Kids are $5 and adults are $10.
Different workshops and gatherings are geared towards young farmers, gardeners, and the agriculturally-curious. We welcome everyone who eats to join in the community celebration, contradance and workshops that will make our valley more diverse and delightful.

About the Ojai Grange Chapter 659
The Ojai Grange Hall is a quonset hut moved here to the Miramonte neighborhood in 1950. The Ojai Grange community was very active in the 50s, 60s and 70s- a hub for gatherings of families interested in supporting local agriculture and the local economy. There were frequent articles in the Ojai Valley News covering the goings-on of the Grange.
Today, the non-profit Ojai Valley Grange has about 50 members, many of whom are children or hardworking, animal husbandry-wise baby boomers. The Grangers meet on the first Saturday of every month at the hall to potluck and support different community projects, the most prominent of which is helping the Grange youth show their animals at the Ventura County Fair every summer.
The goal with Revival Week is to acquaint local folks with this amazing resource and its history, raise money for various repairs that are needed at the hall, share knowledge from some great local and regional teachers, and listen to how our Grange can best serve our community.
