HALLOWEEN CANDY EATING TIPS FROM MY KID'S DENTIST

& Sell Your Candy Back to the Dentist November 1-11

By Sponsored Advertising Content October 23, 2016
Every kid loves Halloween but what to do with all that candy?  Operation Gratitude hosts an annual Halloween Candy Buy Back program for your kids. This year My Kid's Dentist in Camarillo will be participating in the program and you can bring your kids to the office November 1-11 to sell your child's candy for $1 per pound.

Plus here are some Halloween Candy Eating Tips For Your Child's Teeth:
  • Avoid sticky, chewy, hard candy such as caramel, taffy, bubble gum (sugarless or not), jelly beans, etc. They pose a threat to braces, retainers and fillings. They can easily break, dislodge or stick to dental work, as well as break teeth.
  • When your child does eat candy they should try to stick to soft chocolates (example: peanut butter cups) or chocolates that melt in your mouth. You should also try to avoid nuts, popcorn and chips.
  • If you're chewing gum, be sure it is xylitol-based gums and mints from Altoids, Carefree, Trident or Orbit.
  • Wait to brush after eating candy.  The bacteria in your mouth has already begun the process of producing acid, which softens the enamel. Brushing at this time could cause erosion. Wait about thirty minutes for the pH in your mouth to return to normal, then brush and floss.
  • Don't eat all your Halloween candy in one sitting. This gives your mouth time to recover from the increased acidity.
  • Kids who fall asleep with hard candy in their mouth is hazardous enough due to a choking risk, but they also can develop mouth sores. Concentrated sugars in hard candies can erode the lining of the mouth and tongue causing mouth sores
