NEW "THE LEGO MOVIE 4D" OPENS AT LEGOLAND

A Mini Adventure for Fans of The LEGO® Movie

By Harold Rosenthal, LEGOLAND Insider February 7, 2016
In an evening filled with bright lights, a red carpet and photo opportunities Macaroni Kid Camarillo-Oxnard-Ventura joined LEGOLAND® California Resort as they welcomed celebrities and VIP guests to a gala event for the grand opening of “The LEGO® Movie™ 4D A New Adventure.” The theatrical attraction reunites Emmet and friends in an all-new short story combining dazzling 3D computer animation with “4D,” real-world effects such as wind, water and fog.

I had a blast with my daughters, at the mini premiere that included music, a taco bar and the introduction of new Park costume characters: Unikitty and Benny! We got a chance to stroll the red carpet along with celebrities before entering the LEGO Show Place Theater to celebrate the return of Emmet, Wyldstyle, MetalBeard, Benny and Unikitty.

“The LEGO® Movie™” was a worldwide blockbuster that delighted kids around the world with the crazy antics of Emmet, Wyldstyle, Unikitty, Benny and MetalBeard. In an all-new theatrical attraction developed exclusively for LEGOLAND® theme parks, the familiar heroes reunite at the invitation of a shady new character, Risky Business.

The movie is a 3D computer animated film plus “4D” effects such as wind, water and fog. We really enjoyed it, because it really made you a part of the movie.  Especially when they ride on the roller coasters and spray the villain (and the audience) with Lemonade.  Most of the voice actors were the same as the LEGO Movie except Emmett since Chris Pratt wasn’t available.

It will play several times a day at LEGOLAND and is 12 1/2 minutes long. It will play at the LEGO Showplace Theater, which recently underwent a transformation in preparation for the new attraction with new door design, movie theater artwork and an expanded entrance area.

“The LEGO® Movie™ 4D A New Adventure” follows a new journey for the four friends along with feisty MetalBeard after they receive a mysterious invitation leading them to a new theme park. But not all is as it seems as the heroes are once again thrust into the middle of an evil secret plot, only this time, it will be up to the audience to use their Master Builder skills to help save them. Using elements such as wind, water, smoke and special lighting effects, the larger-than-life experience takes the film’s main characters, Emmet and Wyldstyle, and their friends on another awesome adventure.

Returning to voice their iconic characters are actors Elizabeth Banks (Wyldstyle), Nick Offerman (MetalBeard), Charlie Day (Benny) and Alison Brie (Unikitty). Actor, writer and comedian Patton Oswalt voices the scheming Risky Business, brother of movie villain President Business, a new character created exclusively for the attraction.

At the screening there were special Appearances made by Patton Oswalt, the voice of new character, Risky Business and other characters from The LEGO Movie and we loved meeting them.

As an Official LEGOLAND® California Insider, we got a chance to ask film Executive Producer Jill Wilfert and Producer Joshua Wexler, questions creating the The LEGO Movie™ 4D A New Adventure.  Joshua told us that there are special challenges when designing a 4D experience like this.  The effects have to be designed from the start and it affects everything from concept to specific elements in writing the script.  When asked about how he got started in the field. Josh said he started making animated movies at home when he was 8 and Jill mentioned the LEGO Moviemaker App as a tool to do this.  Josh has made animated features including LEGO Star Wars, Muppets, and Mortal Kombat.  Jill started in Toy development and eventually moved into movies.

This was the first time we had been to the park since they opened Heartlake City. My daughters loved playing in the fountains and watching the live LEGO friends show which included five LEGO friends who came out and sang and danced with the kids.  After the show they come out to the audience to meet the kids and take pictures.

We had a blast checking out this new attraction and I highly recommend a day at LEGOLAND and experience The LEGO Movie 4D A New Adventure.

Macaroni Kid Camarillo-Oxnard-Ventura are LEGOLAND Insiders and we were invited to this press event and provided complimentary tickets to explore LEGOLAND during the day. No other Compensation was received.
