VISIT THE VENTURA FREE LIBRARY AT ARROYO VERDE PARK

Thanks to Chris Kuchta and a Team of Boy Scouts From Troop 179

By Volunteer Ventura County February 21, 2016
After many hours of fundraising and planning, Chris Kuchta and a team of Boy Scouts from Troop 179 recently installed a bench and not one, but two, Little Free Libraries at Arroyo Verde Park.

What is a Little Free Library? It's a "take a book, return a book" gathering place where neighbors share their favorite literature and stories. Anyone may stop by and pick up a book (or two) and bring back another book to share.

The first Little Free Library was built in 2009 as a son's tribute to his mom - a school teacher who loved to read. Within a short time, this concept became a movement! The mission of the program is to promote literacy and the love of reading by building free book exchanges worldwide and to build a sense of community as we share skills, creativity and wisdom across generations. As of September 2015, there were over 32,000 registered Little Free Library book exchanges in all 50 U.S. states and over 70 countries around the world.

According to Park Supervisor Anthony Rodriguez, the response from the public has been overwhelmingly positive! Please stop by and visit our first public Little Free Libraries in Ventura and feel free to donate any books you'd like to share with the community!
