Each Tuesday night, adults age 18 and older, meet and discuss a new topic, with speakers, demonstrations, and discussions. Guests answer questions and give an in-depth, behind the scenes look at police operations. This is a great opportunity for local residents to get an inside view of efforts here at VPD.

Potential candidates must meet the following criteria:
  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • Live or work in the City of Ventura.
  • No felony convictions.
  • No misdemeanor convictions within two years of application.
The Community Academy aims to educate residents on the capacity and operations of the department. Participants will go on a ride-along, learn about SWAT and our Patrol Task Force, experience a simulated firearms training course, understand issues Officers face in our community and much more.
  • Academy Dates: March 22, March 29, April 5, April 12, April 19, April 26, May 3, May 10 and May 17.
  • All classes held at 1425 Dowell Drive, Ventura.
  • Except the May 3 class meeting is in Camarillo at the Criminal Justice Training Center.
