Explore. Imagine. Create. Connect. Give Back. That’s what Barefoot Books is all about. It’s exploring other cultures, our planet, ourselves. It’s making time for make-believe and letting imaginations run wild and free. Most of all, it’s about using the power of stories to nourish the creative spark in everyone and strengthen connections with family, the global community, and the earth.
Last week we got to check out these two books:
- The Snow Queen: An exquisitely illustrated retelling of the classic story by Hans Christian Andersen. An evil troll creates a mirror which reflects the bad and ugly sides of people. Shards of its glass enter a young boy, causing him to reject his loving family and best friend Gerda. Helped by kind strangers and guided by her warm heart, Gerda makes the perilous journey to rescue her friend from the icy palace of the Snow Queen.
- The Real Princess A Mathemagical Tale: Practice your math skills while enjoying this quirky take on "The Princess and the Pea." The King and Queen and their three sons are on the search for a real princess, but it is only the Queen who knows the secret. After the story, there is an opportunity for readers to test their counting skills with fun number games. Book with CD edition includes story read by actress Juliet Stevenson. My younger girls really LOVED The Real Princess A Mathemagical Tale. It also comes with a CD so you can listen to it in the car as you drive and kids can follow along with the storybook. It is recommended for ages 4-9 and my 5 year old loved it from the second she saw the great graphics.
