CATCH THE MUPPETS AT THE EL CAPITAN IN HOLLYWOOD

A Review of the Movie and Experience at The El Capitan Theatre Thru January 8th

By Harold Rosenthal, Co-Publisher November 27, 2011

Disney’s “The Muppets” is taking over  the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood thru January 8th. Before each movie, you can enjoy a special holiday sing-a-long with Kermit and Miss Piggy, LIVE on the El Capitan stage.

On Friday, The El Capitan invited our family to come out and see the movie and enjoy the sing-a-long so we could share the experience with Macaroni Kid readers and let me tell you it was an amazing experience.

As we entered the Theater we were each given “jingle bells” an elastic band with 4 bells attached.

After the previews ended, Kermit and Miss Piggy arrived and they sang Holiday songs with the audience.  The audience was encouraged to sing-a-long with the muppets and use our jingle bell bracelets. The lyrics were displayed in large text on the screen, so everyone would know the words.  The last song was, “Let It Snow”,  and when it ended confetti snow started falling down on the audience.  My kids enjoyed the snow and the sing-a-long and it was definitely a highlight of seeingthe movie at this theatre.

Then the movie started and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I thought it was a funny, campy, and adorable movie and both my daughters seemed to enjoyed the show. My 4 year old thought it was a little too long for her, but after the movie she said she loved it. She has been Wocka Wocka Wocka-ing all over town since she saw the movie. My 6 year old was entranced by the movie and couldn't take her eyes off the screen.

For the adults it brings back some great childhood memories of how much I enjoyed the Muppets as a kid and it was alot of fun seeing them on the big screen once again. Plus it was great to introduce my kids to something I loved as a kid, that has been redone and is very 2011.

The Muppets, is also sprinkled with lots of great ‘80s music which I enjoyed seeing and hearing. The movie did feature alot of cameos, which my kids didn't even notice but that made all the adults in the audience clap and cheer.

The movie was extremeley well cast and Jason Segel and Amy Adams are perfect in their roles. They seem to have fun while playing their parts and interacting with the different Muppets. If you are looking for a fun movie that is very campy, then this is a great movie because no matter how young or old you are it is a great time.

After the movie, we headed downstairs to view Miss Piggy's couture wardrobe collection from the film which is on display at The El Capitan. It includes her designer Zac Posen gown and her peep-toed Christian Louboutin pumps, along with some replica sets from the movie. Don't forget your camera because they have some cute Muppet sets to take your picture infront of.

ABOUT THE MOVIE
On vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the world's biggest Muppet fan, his brother Gary (Jason Segel) and Gary’s girlfriend Mary (Amy Adams) from Smalltown, USA, discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze Muppet Studios and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets' former stomping grounds. To stage a telethon and raise the $10 million needed to save the studio, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino tribute band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate. With a screenplay written by Jason Segel & Nicholas Stoller, the film is directed by James Bobin. Featuring signature celebrity cameos, Disney’s “The Muppets” hits the big screen Nov. 23, 2011. The film is rated PG by the MPAA.
