August is the perfect time for a trip down to Legoland. Summer School is out, most camps have ended, school only begins for us in Camarillo in September and Legoland has so many fun activities available for kids in the Summer. So this week I took the day off from work and I drove down for the day with my 5 year old.
We started out the day going to the SEA LIFE Aquarium Carlsbad which has a separate entrance and opened before the main part of the park. There is also an entrance from inside the park which we used later in the day. My daughter was very excited by the aquarium, she loves animals and Legos and so it was perfect because the aquarium combines both of the things she loves together. She got very excited to see several of the tanks had lego characters with the sea creatures.
The aquarium is a lot of fun and we loved seeing the various types of water creatures in their different tanks, from fish to giant lobsters to star fish to sharks. There are even places where the kids peer through holes which put them in the middle of the tanks, which we thought was very cool. In addition, they have two tide pools where you can actually touch the animals.

When we were done at the aquarium we headed to the main park. There is a little something for everyone in the Legoland Park. Rides of various types, shows, carnival games, play areas, splash zones, souvenir stands and various types of food, but in the summer they have some special shows and attractions that are not available during the year.

- LEGOLAND® California Resort features the world’s first and only LEGOLAND Water Park. The centerpiece is a 45-foot-tall tower designed to immerse children in the creative world of LEGO. The Water Park also features more than 20 LEGO models including giant LEGO friends who splash or spray water on guests, two sandy beach wading areas, retail shops and snack carts. Feeling very hot, we spent a lot of time in the slash zone area where you can play in the water and get very wet, including a huge bucket that turns over and drenches everyone below. We also spent several hours in the water park (only open during the summer) which you enter from the park but requires a separate admission.
The Water Park has a very fun big river with single and double inner tubes which you float in around the river. They can even be built up with floating Legos. Plus there are two wading areas with Water Slides, one for big kids and one for little kids. The little one also has a mini-river where parents walk around with their children who ride on rafts.
There is also a new water ride which can be entered from either the main park or the water park. It is a big raft with several rows of seats. The raft goes to a high point followed by a big drop which creates a huge wall of water. Everybody on the boat gets soaked as does anybody on the bridge over the end of the drop. You can stand on the bridge even without taking the ride. The water park also contains two beach areas.

SOME YEAR ROUND FAVORITES
A favorite attraction of mine is Miniland where they have Lego Model cities including a special area with all the various worlds form Star Wars. Plus we had a wonderful time building Lego cars and racing them down tracks.
In addition we loved Splash Battle - The Ride in which you ride a pirate ship and shoot water cannons at other people watching the ride, people also watching the ride shoot at you. Sky Cruisers was also a favorite, although the line was quite long and slow. Among the kid only rides, my daughter loved the one where she rode a horse with a Jousting Pole attached.
We had a marvelous time at the various Legoland Parks. I highly recommend Legoland and its many attractions this summer.
