Celebrate Summer at Solstice Celebration This Weekend

This year’s 2013 Summer Solstice Parade and Festival begins Friday, June 21 and continues through Sunday June 23 in Alameda Park, in the city of Santa Barbara. Santa Barbara’s Summer Solstice Celebration began in 1974 and has grown to be Santa Barbara’s largest three day art’s festival.

  • Saturday Parade - Noon, State and Cota
  • Saturday Festival - Noon - 8 pm, Alameda Park
  • Sunday Festival - Noon - 6 pm, Alameda Park
HIGHLIGHTS
Friday has all the vendors, food booths, wine and beer garden. The entertainment includes some performances by parade ensembles such as Panzumo, and the headliner band is TROPO electronic - rock - dance band from Santa Cruz. According to Solstice planners, "Friday is mellower and more oriented towards locals."

On Saturday, June 22, the 39th Annual Solstice Parade begins at State and Cota at noon, making its way up State Street to the festival in Alameda Park where the festivities continue with entertainment until 8 pm.  This year’s theme is “Creatures”.

On Saturday and Sunday, June 22 and 23rd, the Solstice Children’s Festival is open from noon until 6:00 PM with a variety of family and children’s activities, free art projects, booths, musical entertainment.  


Featured will be McKensie Violin Studio, Sandcastle Music Together, the SB Youth Music Academy, All Star Cheer, “String”, RemJ, a Michael Jackson Tribute, Mr Fun Baloons, Sino West Kung Fu & Hip Hop are some of the acts featured on the children’s stage.  The community mural on Sunday will again be under the direction of artist Carlos Cuellar, and anyone can join in the fun to create this 4 cube panel artwork.

On Sunday, June 23rd on the main stage in the park, entertainment begins at 1:30.  One of the highlights is Creed Bratton and the Rubbermen.  Creed is a former member of 60’s chart toppers “The Grass Roots” and is well known as an actor in the NBC comedy “The Office”.

The Summer Solstice Festival will feature Seventy-five decorative and visual fine artists from around the country with their distinctive one-of-a-kind works.   All of the arts and crafts booths, food booths, and beer and wine garden will be open for all three days of the Festival.
