On Saturday, April 5 from 11am to 3pm, the City of Oxnard hosts their annual Earth Day Festival in Plaza Park in downtown Oxnard. This event is FREE and promotes environmental education and awareness in a fun and festive atmosphere.

This year, the festival's theme is super cute, “Bee kind to the Earth.” Bees pollinate nearly 1/3 of the Earth’s food crops.  And with the number of bees declining at a dramatically rapid rate, the festival is focusing its efforts to give more attention to this problem.

Oxnard’s Earth Day festival is a fun event, offering environmental exhibit booths with hands-on activities for families. Various community organizations will provide information on everything from reducing water bills through conservation, to Earth-friendly gardening practices to help save the bees.

This year, the festival is pleased to feature a special performance of the musical, “All That Trash,” performed by the comedy duo, The Earthworms. The performance will highlight the three “R’s”- reduce, reuse and recycle. The Coveralls, and A Place of Peace Drum Circle, will provide additional live entertainment.

In addition Macaroni Kid who will be their making crafts, guests enjoy live entertainment and activities, with a wide variety of food vendors. This year, food vendors and attendees will be able to participate in the City’s new pilot food waste collection program. Special carts will be available onsite for the collection of food scraps. The material will be hauled for composting where it will be made into a valuable soil amendment.
