For years, Summerfest has kicked off its free community event with a 5k race to promote active and healthy lifestyles among local families and children. This years, Summerfest event will host a shorter, 3,000 Meter Run/Walk Championships on Saturday, May 31st with a race start time of 8am.
It was decided to shorten the Summerfest run to 3,000 meters because this is the distance that middle and elementary school cross country runners. The goal is to get a lot of sign-ups from local kids looking to run in a low-key race to encourage our youth to exercise and live a healthy lifestyle.
HIGHLIGHTS
- FREE entry before May 17 for kids under age 18, after May 17 or for the community $5-10 depending on when you register
- Adults pay $10-$20 depending on when they register
- Race shirts and awards will not be given, however the event will be timed.
- Elementary and Middle School Kids will get finishers medals.
- The fastest VUSD school in both the elementary and middle school divisions will get a special prize (Using times for VUSD schools, the 2 fastest boys and 2 fastest girls will determine the fastest school.)
- Also a prize for the VUSD school with the most participants.
All proceeds from Summerfest and the 3,000 Meter Race support healthy VUSD activities including, nutrition and physical activity programs in the schools.
