On Saturday, June 14th Macaroni Kid was invited to a summer blogger event at the Discovery Science Museum in Santa Ana to check out their new exhibit MythBusters: The Explosive Exhibition, which also opened up to the public that day as well.

The MythBusters exhibit and show is a truly amazing experience.  The show used volunteers from the audience to conduct an experiment to see whether it was plausible to dodge a paintball shot.  It was entertaining and educational.

Throughout the exhibit were several fun experiments we got to try. We enjoyed all of them, but our favorites were the “Big Bad Wolf,” the rain, and the superhero change.  At the “Big Bad Wolf,” we got to build houses out of different materials to see if they could be blown down. The rain exhibit had you run or walk through rain then compare the results under a black light to see which way you got wetter.  The superhero change had a phone booth and a clock where you could see how quickly you could get changed into a superhero costume.

Tickets to MythBusters: The Explosive Exhibition is currently $5 online before the event opens. They will go up to $10 per person very soon plus general admission fees. General admission prices are as follows: adult ($16.95), senior ($12.95), and children ages 3-14 ($12.95).

Guests of Discovery Science Center in this exhibit will learn about myths, the MythBusters and what experimenting is all about by participating in a series of fun, hands-on experiences and live demonstrations. Experiments cover topics such as flight, friction, gravity, speed and combustion.

VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS FROM OUR VISIT

The exhibition showcases:
  • Blueprint Room – Based on the real-life operations room of the MythBusters’ iconic set, this room acts as an introduction to MythBusting and is filled with gadgets, props, video and, of course, blueprints used by the hosts to explore myths on the show.

  • Workshop – This is the place where guests turn into investigators and use real science to test myths.  Guest discover whether they get more wet running versus walking in the rain and find out if toast really does always land buttered-side down.

  • Live MythBusters Demonstration Stage – Here guests have the opportunity to view and participate in live science demonstrations that dissect myths with the help of a team of energetic MythBusting facilitators.

Next we checked out the Weebles Coast to Coast exhibit which covered most of the upstairs and had activities  relating to different areas of the country and fun hobbies. They ranged from dog sled racing and counting down to the New Year in Times Square, to using a curry brush on a horse as well as looking through a telescope in a New England light house.

Our favorites were riding in a hot air balloon and building the St. Louis Arch.  They also had a few activities in the workshop room. My kids most enjoyed building a track using pegs in a peg board, paper and paper clips so that a ball could roll down it.

The museum is located at 2500 N. Main Street Santa Ana, CA 92705. Hours are 10am to 5pm all summer long.
