Let's pretend you are out of town for Memorial Day weekend and you have a new home security system that lets you see your home from an easily viewable app, and pretend you see someone in your home that shouldn't be there. Imagine if you could talk to them and tell them, the police are on the way because you received a text message on your phone. Now imagine all this was real, and it is with a new home security system that we are testing called the PIPER NV.
PIPER NV is an affordable home security system that uses a video camera and an app to provide security for your home. You can hear sounds in your home and you can talk to whomever is in your home that shouldn't be there. The app connected to your security stystem will send you a message whenever something happens that you need to know about and the app and home monitoring is FREE.
Once you buy the system which runs around $279, there are no other fees and you monitor your home using an app that is connected to your system. No matter where you are in your home from the backyard, your bedroom or even at the mall (yes, we used it while we were at the mall), as long as you have internet on your phone, you can use it and see what is happening at your house.
It has night vision, the technological ability to identify pets (decreasing chances of false alarms), and z-wave integration. The camera’s z-wave feature allows it to connect to home automation accessories that let you remotely control the turning on and off of appliances, lights, and much more. We got a chance to check out this feature when we used the dimmer option which we hooked up to some lights in our living room. You can turn them on or off when you are not at home or set them on a timer through the app.
One really cool feature is the ability to talk within the room you are viewing, and you also can hear what is being said in the room you are monitoring. We had fun being able to communicate with our kids while they were watching TV and we were not in the room. It brought us peace of mind to be able to keep an eye on them.
PIPER NV also sells sound monitors that you can attach to windows or doors. We attached ours to our sliding glass door. Then when one is activated, you will get notifications on your phone through the app.
The PIPER NV system is extremely easy to set-up. The camera comes in Black or White, you just plug in the camera, pick a spot for it to sit to view the area you want to monitor and you are ready to go. You can even move it from room to room or take it on a trip with you when needed. The picture in the app of your home is pretty clear in grey and black and white. There is also a slight time delay between what you see on the screen and what happens in real time.
